About Gerber & Co

Gerber & Co. began in 2017, during a challenging seven-year drought in Namaqualand. Stefan, a qualified winemaker, and Francisce, a qualified chef, were faced with the tough decision of how to keep the farm going—whether to provide feed for the sheep, rent out the land, or close the gates for good. The idea to add value to their sheep’s wool started as a simple thought while sitting on the farmhouse stoep, overlooking the dusty Namaqualand landscape. Instead of selling the wool on the open market, they decided to explore ways to process and create something locally. They began experimenting with washing the wool in their backyard, carefully scooping off the wool grease each morning. After a lot of trial and error, their first wool jersey sample made from their own farm’s wool was completed in mid-2018—a game changer and a moment of immense pride.

As the company grew, Stefan focused on building the wool scouring plant, while Francisce took charge of the finer details by designing and running the Gerber & Co brand. Today, at Gerber & Co, we take great pride in our commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability. Our signature 100% merino wool jerseys, made from Namaqualand wool, reflect this dedication to excellence. With nearly full control over our supply chain—from shearing sheep on our own farms to washing the wool in our scouring factory, to knitting and embroidering the jerseys—we ensure that every piece we create is crafted with care, consistency, and durability.
